We are a locally-owned global manufacturing company that designs and produces high-performance custom fluid sealing solutions for a variety of industries including medical, aerospace, oil and gas, food packaging, and alternative energy. A Day in the Life as a Sales Engineer

As a Sales Engineer, you use your exceptional communication skills to understand customer requirements and propose solutions. Ultimately, you are responsible for ensuring sales volume meets or exceeds targets. You do this through leveraging incoming leads from our digital marketing team and also by developing relationships to deepen partnerships in existing accounts.  

You divide your time between managing incoming leads and proactively identifying new strategic opportunities. You work with internal teams to understand projects status and appropriately communicate key details to the customer. You establish and maintain contacts in the industry to gather necessary intelligence. You actively participate in the sales forecasting and planning process and collaborate with internal teams to meet targets. You consistently use our exceptional custom technology tools to track your leads and open opportunities. You partner with Engineering and Project Management teams frequently for quoting and status updates.

You must be eager to learn and humble. You will utilize the skills you currently have, but will need to learn and understand how to adapt them to our unique products and customer expectations. Plan to start out by learning our internal systems, providing customer support and selling stock products. As you acquire knowledge of the business and understand the nature of the complex opportunities and associated risks, you will progress into custom product sales of increasing complexity and business impact.

Due to the global nature of our business, the majority of your time is spent engaging with customers via phone or email. After the global pandemic is controlled you will have an opportunity to travel both domestically and internationally on occasion. Your customers also enjoy visiting DSTI so once we can safely welcome visitors again you will have the opportunity to showcase our state-of-the-art facilities.

Qualifications for a Sales Engineer

  • 5-7+ years of previous experience in customer service and/or inside sales in a highly technical industry.
  • Hands-on experience with customer relationship management (CRM) and enterprise resource planning (ERP) software
  • Proficiency with technology including Microsoft Office products, and CRM/ERP products.
  • Customer service and sales skills

A Bachelors degree in Communications or Engineering Field is desirable, but multiple factors will be taken into consideration and a college degree is not a firm requirement. Do you come across professionally whether the communication is in writing, on the phone, or in person? Are you organized and able to prioritize tasks effectively? Are you a quick learner with a high aptitude for software and technology? Are you both team-oriented and able to work independently? Do you enjoy a collaborative environment? If so, then you might just be perfect for this position!

Flexible Work Schedule

The typical schedule would be Monday - Friday from 8:00 am to 4:30 pm with some flexibility. Please be aware that Sales Engineers work from our Andover, MN office (this is not a remote sales opportunity). You will have a private office and practice social distancing while learning from other employees, but you must be willing to work onsite.
